Lights, Ornaments and Tinsel: Choosing Your Holiday Tree

We all feel a little guilty when we put up our Christmas lights and December holiday decorations before Thanksgiving, but now that Thanksgiving is past and your Thanksgiving leftovers are just about finished, we can hang our lights and tinsel proudly. Here are some Christmas Tree ideas and suggestions from us at Trilogy La Quinta.

If your family is planning on getting a Christmas tree this year, consider the following:

  • Placing Your Tree – Before you go out to look for your tree, make sure you measure its spot in your home to make sure it will fit! Measure both height and width and make sure you have some wiggle room. When choosing its spot, avoid heat sources such as vents, radiators and fire places.
  • Real vs. Fake Tree – Perhaps consider a fake tree this year and for future years. Though they do not have the traditional holiday feel, they are very environmental and wallet friendly. If you choose to stick with traditional trees, consider that trees with shorter needles such as Fraser or Noble Fir are often times easier to decorate than others due to larger spaces between branches. With a real tree, you can determine the tree is fresh when the needles are shiny and green, not dry or brown.
  • Christmas Tree Farms – Grab your family and head to a Christmas Tree Farm to choose and cut down your tree! Many farms include other fun winter activities such as sleigh rides, hay rides and festivals. Find more information on Christmas Tree Farms in your area here.

If you’re in the La Quinta area, make sure you make it out to Old Town on Saturday, December 3rd for the free Christmas Tree Lighting! The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony includes festive music, activities for the children, and of course, Santa! The event takes place at 6:00[m at the Main Street Event Lawn. Contact the city at (760) 777-7000 for more information.
