It Pays to Repurpose

Get Double Duty from Everyday Household Items
By: Celine Todd

Many of us are in the habit of recycling aluminum cans, plastic bottles, and our daily newspaper. We can take the recycling concept a step further by looking at the everyday items in our house and repurposing them for an entirely new use. Below are twenty ideas for breathing new life into everyday household items.

Rug Pad
Usual Use: Preventing your rugs from slipping and sliding
Double Duty: If you have an extra rug pad sitting in storage, use it to line the trunk of your car. The next time you drive home from the grocery store, you won’t have to worry about your shopping bags tumbling over with every swerve or bump in the road.

Laundry Bag
Usual Use: Protecting your “delicates” in the washing machine
Double Duty: Place Tupperware lids, water bottle caps, and other small items in a laundry bag before adding them to the dishwasher. You’ll put an end to searching for lost items that have slipped through the rack and landed on the floor during the rinse cycle.

Tissue Box
Usual Use: Conveniently storing Kleenex during cold & flu season
Double Duty: When you pull the last tissue from the box, don’t toss it in the trash. Instead, stuff it with all of the plastic grocery bags that are taking up space in your kitchen cabinets.
