Contra Costa County: Greenest Place to Retire

According U.S. News, Contra Costa County will have the greenest place to retire in 2012 – Walnut Creek. The article, “The 10 Best Places to Retire in 2012,” said that retirees account for over a quarter of its population, and the city caters to senior citizens with various discounts and the ease of public transportation.

Walnut Creek combines the amenities of a city with abundant access to the wilderness, and its “downtown is filled with high-end shops, fine dining, organic eateries, as well as the Lesher Center for the Arts.” Residents can choose to drive up to the summit of Mount Diablo or even travel to nearby metropolitan cities like San Francisco.  The benefits and choices available while living in Northern California abound.

Not only is Walnut Creek known for its abundant beauty, but only minutes away is a hidden treasure known as Trilogy at the Vineyards, which is as environmentally conscientious as it is “green.”

Trilogy at The Vineyards is in the middle of 30 acres of vineyards, 18 acres of olive orchards and in the shadow of Mount Diablo, but the “green” living doesn’t stop there. Trilogy is the Bay Area’s first Active Adult Community to be 100 percent Energy Star Qualified.

Specific standard features of Energy Star homes at Trilogy at The Vineyards, include:

  • Tightly sealed wall, floor and attic insulation and ducts installed with minimum air leakage and efficient insulation
  • Energy Star qualified tankless water heaters that heat water only when needed
  • Tech Shield® on sheathing material to keep the home at a constant temperature
  • Fixtures and Jenn-Air® appliances that include the Energy Star seal

Mike Crosby, CEO of The Whitewater Group, Inc., and a Trilogy at The Vineyards homeowner, estimates that he and his wife save $150 or more a month on energy bills and says their new home is more comfortable and easier to regulate.  For instance, the tight insulation has allowed the two to save money and energy by not needing to use air conditioning, despite a recent hot spell. Outdoors, satellite-controlled sprinklers gauge the rain and only go on if needed. Additionally, the Crosbys can track and monitor their energy efficiency progress online.

“We wouldn’t have chosen Shea without the incredible value proposition to us – a quality product, dedication to promises and guarantees, and most importantly, the option to live in a community of people who are socially aware and share our concern for a quality life,” said Crosby.

Trilogy at the Vineyards prides itself on being as green as possible, and because of this dedication to providing a sustainable lifestyle, they are able to attract members who care about helping the environment. It’s only fitting that Trilogy at the Vineyards is in the #1 greenest counties to retire!
